Board Evaluations
In today’s economy, boards and their directors must operate at peak performance to promote and sustain superior organizational results. They must also periodically evaluate themselves to ensure they are operating at optimal ability. Often, however, boards lack the time, background or objectivity to conduct formal self-evaluations.
MDA Leadership Consulting provides boards with the criteria to objectively and effectively evaluate their performance. Depending on a board’s needs, MDA input ranges from assessing the board as a whole to reviewing individual directors to facilitating intra-board dialogue and feedback. MDA also provides boards with an objective analysis of their operations, including composition, accountability standards, resource requirements and director relations.
Boards that regularly evaluate themselves report greater performance improvement, including enhanced CEO and intra-board relationships. Boards that do not self-evaluate run a greater risk of impairing an organization’s performance, such as by having difficulty attracting and retaining quality directors and CEOs, or gaining investor confidence.
Once boards have formally evaluated themselves, it’s important to periodically re-evaluate in order to assess collective and individual progress. MDA helps boards administer and assess re-evaluations.
CEO Performance Evaluations
To enhance CEO effectiveness and organizational results, boards are becoming more deliberate and rigorous with their CEO performance evaluations. Done well, a CEO evaluation not only provides a board with an objective measure of the CEO’s past performance, but also a well-informed game plan for the organization’s future direction.
MDA Leadership Consulting provides boards with CEO performance evaluations which are consistent, confidential, fair and rigorous. To ensure that evaluations are aligned with the organization’s interests, MDA sets evaluation standards based on board and CEO input. These answer such questions as: What will be measured? Who will be involved? How will the evaluation be conducted and the results communicated? What is the frequency?
From broad CEO evaluation categories such as bottom-line impact, operational results and leadership effectiveness, MDA works with boards to tailor categories to organization-specific standards. The result? Incisive and impactful CEO performance evaluations – rich in quantitative and qualitative data and information.
Through an MDA-led CEO evaluation, boards are better-equipped to objectively review, recognize and reward performance based on specific criteria as well as assess the CEO’s execution of board-directed policies and decisions. In addition, Boards are able to ensure the CEO’s activities are aligned with the organization’s mission and plan, assist with the CEO’s development, and foster improved board and CEO communications and relations.
